Kansas City Southern F7A slug 4060 was at WEST YARD, just west of New Orleans, between GP40-2 units 797 and 798. The 4060 had been built in August 1950 as F7A 73D. It was assigned engine number 90 in 1957, renumbered 4060 in 1978 and then rebuilt into a road slug in 1979. It was retired in 1990 and sold to Lloyd Peterson in 1991 who had it cosmetically restored as KCS 73D and placed it on display next to the KCS depot in Decatur, Arkansas in 1993. |

Description: |
At 8:45 Kansas City Southern train No. 53 was near the end of its run from Dallas to the Seaboard System's Gentilly Yard in eastern New Orleans. The train was on the Southern Railway's New Orleans Terminal Co. subsidiary near Elysian Fields Avenue, and was about to get onto the SBD at L&N Junction. The motive power was GP40-2 798, F7A slug 4060 and GP40 788. |

Description: |
F7A #4060 had begun life as KCS #73D when delivered in August of 1950. Later, it was renumber #90. It suffered a fire in 1977, at which time it was rebuilt as a slug and renumbered 4060. It was semi-perminantly paired with the 799 at the time of this shot. Later, it was preserved in 1991 at Decatur AR, renumbered back to 73D and painted in the Southern Belle scheme. |
