The engine weight tipped the scales at 264,000 lb and it could generate a tractive effort of 36,833 lb. Seen here, it's heading up a passenger train stopped momentarily at"an unknown station. Caught by C.W. Burns at the National Ry Museum in Green Bay, WI, this 1923 Alco-Schenectady built Pacific has been preserved after years of service for the SOO Line. This is an H-23 class with 75" drivers, developing a respectable boiler pressure of 200 psi for its 25"x26" cylinders (diameter & stroke). The engine weight is 281,080 lb and it could create a tractive effort 36,833 lb. Since this 1968 photo, the engine has been moved to a more sheltered location at the museum. |
