The 2 main lines [Joint Line] originally crossed over here. In 1919 the crossover was taken out and the two mains rerouted a bit to stay parallel but separate for that last couple miles to the divide. That reroute made for some beautiful curves that future [today's] railfans could use to photographic advantage!! |

It is 1:18 pm as this BNSF northbound glides down the #1 main towards Denver, while a southbound loaded coaler holds the #2 main in the 'sag' at Spruce. With the NB clear ahead the SB coaler will shortly resume its final 3 mile grind to the summit at Palmer Lake.
