If I recall correctly, this engine is a former GP7 rebuilt to GP9 specifications. 1755 is just tagging along for the westbound ride through the Tuckasegee River Valley and the beautiful western North Carolina countryside. |

No 1702 is now about 4 miles west of Dillsboro passing through farm country alongside the Tuckasegee River. This shot was taken from hwy US 74 and didnt go quite as planned as I meant to get it more toward the left before the trees. |

Station |
Description: |
The station in Bryson City is very nice and neatly landscaped. The day I was here, a blue grass band was playing railroad tunes. I enjoy going to the GSMRR not just to see and ride the trains, but just to be around the festive atmosphere. GSMRR runs a class act. |

Corn cars |
Description: |
This is the first time I have ever seen covered hoppers at the Parker-Reichman grain elevator in Andrews. Only two cars were there, a CEFX car and a former N&W car. I think this place can take in as many as six cars, when that happens, one GSMRR GP 9 can take a cut of only 3 cars from Nantahala to Topton up the extreamly steep Red Marble Grade. |

Milepost 99 has definatly seen better days as both sides are extremely faded out. This station used to be fairly active up into about 1999 or 2000. |

Andrews Station |
Description: |
The Andrews depot pictured is a replacement for another station that was located on this same site many years ago. GSMRR used to originate excursions here as well for trips down Red Marble grade to milepost 80 at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. I asked a GSMRR employee in Bryson City why they no longer run out of here and he stated "The ridership just wasn't there, also, we don't have enough equipment to operate in the peak season to run the trains (two runs per day) out of Bryson City and Dillsboro.". Oddly, I have ridden the whole line from Andrews to Dillsboro and the Andrews to N.O.C. portion is my favorite. Maybe one day the trains will return, but for now is limited only to two photo special trains that will run the entire line on May 23rd and Sept. 12th, 2004. |
