GM&O 705
Title:  GM&O 705
Description:  Uncharacteristic for ICG, this GP38 was running long-hood first on the local through Belleville. This location may not look familiar, but this is the same spot where at least one intrepid soul got some high perspective shots of IC/CN trains in more recent years. Those were from atop a nearby hospital parking garage that had not been built yet in 1979.

GM&O 511
Title:  GM&O 511
Description:  A grimey black and white locomotive, but I guess you could call it colorful in other ways. Thats some mighty crafty application of electricians tape.

Title:  GM&O 740
Description:  An all GM&O lash-up at the River King #1 mine in Freeburg soaks up a little late afternoon Autumn sunshine.

GM&O 718
Title:  GM&O 718
Description:  A not uncommon sight back in those days: GM&O colors in the midst of an ICG lash-up. This one is just rolling off the Kaskaskia River bridge in New Athens.

GM&O 914
Title:  GM&O 914
Description:  Illinois Central Gulf was great fun in the early 1980s. You really never knew what you might get on any given train - often Paducah re-builds, sometimes IC "green diamond" Geeps, or, as in this case, GM&O units still wearing original colors and numbers. Here an SD40 has the point on an eastbound crossing the (then) brand-new Kaskaskia River bridge at New Athens, IL.

GM&O 742
Title:  GM&O 742
Description:  On the ready track at the River King mine, GP38-2 742 still wears GM&O colors while the unit its coupled to - ICG 9549 - is ex-GM&O 730.

GM&O 908
Title:  GM&O 908
Description:  Probably the filthiest, grimiest locomotive I'd ever seen, this was certainly the last GM&O unit I ever recorded. Found in the UP yard at Chouteau Ave in St. Louis, it was in a string of units headed for new owners...or scrappers.
