Album Info:The eastern end of the CSX Old Main Line Sub follows the Patapsco River Valley from Woodbine to Relay, Md. Anyone who has studied early American RR History knows the tail of B&O's venture inland from Baltimore up a narrow river valley with tight curves hugging a sometimes wild river. Many of these curves were later mitigated with the addition of numerious tunnels & bridges. Excpet for a few RR crossings much of the Sub is difficult to photograph because of the dense tree growth. Portions of the trackage on the eastern slope can be approached by various units of the Maryland Patapsco Valley State Park. The McKelden section off Marriottsville road has a system of foot trails which parallel the tracks from the northside of the River. A number of relativly clear vantage points are avaliable. Summer early morning light helps.... /DL
