Album Info:The Seaview Railroad runs in the former US Navy yard at Quonset Point or as some call it Davisville, in the town of North Kingston, Rhode Island. Once home to the Navy Seabees. Davisville where the famed Quonset Hut was developed during World War II. Used as an industrial park, the Navy yard and deep sea port are now owned by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation with the Seaview as the designated operator of the old Navy Railroad. Goods coming in include canned food products, lumber, lubricating oil, chemicals, granite, plastic, steel, auto racks with Audis, Ford's and VW's. Frozen fish from Sea Freeze and Audis being the major commodity outbound. Auto racks made possible by the new 3rd rail project being completed in 2006 for clearance that the electrified Amtrak Northeast Corridor does not have. Access to the Seaview is via the Amtrak Northeast Corridor, and serviced by Providence and Worcester's nightly WODA/DAWO. Principle power, EMD SW7 No 5, ex Providence and Worcester 1202. A recently acquired in 2006, GP18 No 1855, ex Mountain Laurel (Finger Lake) 1801. The GE 80 tonner serves as the alternate power, owned by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation and carries no number. Sadly both Alco's were scrapped. Also see my P&W Autoracks and Ceremony album for additional photos.
