BLE 909
Title:  BLE 909
Description:  The middle unit on the Hill Job was Bessemer and Lake Erie 909. I've wanted to get one of these units for a while, and today was my lucky day! This unit started its life as a SD45T-2.

Off to Pokey
Title:  Off to Pokey
Description:  This shot is one of the reasons I wanted to go to Duluth, getting a train in good light coming over the bridge just outside of Steelton Yard. Here we see CN 2309 leading an SD70M-2 and KC 1034 over the bridge and towards Pokey Yard. This shot would have been just how I pictured it except for the white car in the foreground, oh well, still looks like a nice shht to me.

Screaming Up Steelton Hill
Title:  Screaming Up Steelton Hill
Description:  After seeing the helpers tie on, and starting to shove, I hurried over to Steelton Hill where I set up to get this shot from Becks Road (County 3). You could hear these units screaming and giving it all they had from a ways away. Sure was a sight to see.

Hard working Helpers
Title:  Hard working Helpers
Description:  Even better then the power on the head end was the pair of IC helpers! It was great to hear two SD40-3s in run eight giving it all they had to shove the train up grade. The bass and sound that these units made reminded me of the good old days when the WC Transfer woula grind up Shoreham Hill.

IC 6250
Title:  IC 6250
Description:  Later in the day, the Hill Job came down again, but this time it was light powered as it crossed over 40th Ave. They came to pick up some emptys at the ore docks. The 6250 has really lost a lot of its color since I last saw it a few years ago.

Hill Job
Title:  Hill Job
Description:  As I'was coming down I35 into Duluth, I saw a loaded taconite train heading down grade towards the ore docks. So I made the quick decision to try and beat it to the docks. Thankfuqly, I made it in time, and was able to get this shot. Little did I know at the time, but I knew the engineer! The engineer is none other then John Tuttle who used to work outof New Brighton last year as a conductor. This was quite the colorful lashup too!

Erie Mining
Title:  Erie Mining
Description:  I was able to make it to the Lake Superior RR museum and was happy to shoot this LTV F9A. This unit is still fully operational, and is used to store empty coal cars along the LSMs line. Wish I had more space to get a better shot of it...

Proctor Hill
Title:  Proctor Hill
Description:  While I waited for the kill job to come up from the docks (which I sadly later missed) I noticed that one could clearly see where the second main used to be. You can see a clear trail of taconite pellets on the right, right where the second track once was.

St. Croix Valley Railroad.
Title:  St. Croix Valley Railroad.
Description:  After leaving home at 6:40 AM to head up to Duluth, I decided to make a stop in Rush City to shoot the recently repainted units that the St. Croix Valley has. I got there just as the sun was coming up, and at the same time a crew member did. He started up the unit just as I gov this shot this. Those old geeps sound really nice.
