OHIC 101
Title:  OHIC 101
Description:  OHIC 101 shoves 5 empty storage cars back where they were after digging one out. OHIC's big business is car storage, but I'm sure the auto fluff has come close, if not surpassed it....

OHIC 101
Title:  OHIC 101
Description:  Ohi-Rail S2 101 is seen switching Bergholz Yard before a run north to Minerva. Todays train... 1 x 2, picking 0 x 1 up at Watheys... DeNoon Lumber loads boxcars of kiln dried lumber for shipment to points west, I believe.

Uh oh!
Title:  Uh oh!
Description:  The former location of Mechanicsville Tunnel has been a source of trouble in times past. This particular Saturday, was no different. A few hours later, all debris were removed from the track and OHIC continued it's northward journey... As you can tell by the rust on the rail, trips to/from Bergholz are few and sometimes far between.

OHIC 101
Title:  OHIC 101
Description:  After the tree clearing, Northbound OHIC 101 finally enters Minerva Yard. The head out car was picked up at Watheys. You may notice the sign by the SOU boxcar that reads "BEGIN ORDC" - all track south of MP 43.5 is owned by the Ohio Rail Development Commission. North of here it is owned by LWR, Inc. and the other sign reads "BEGIN LWR". Their relationship to Ohi-Rail is somewhat of a mystery to me, but they don't rip stuff out, so I don't care!

OHIC 101
Title:  OHIC 101
Description:  After running around the 4 cars from the south, 101 tied on to the 0 x 19 (making a 1 x 22 train) that the 4097 had assembled and begins the shove to the NS interchange at Bayard.

OHIC 101
Title:  OHIC 101
Description:  Just 1 mile outside Bayard, Ohi-Rail crosses US Rte. 30 and is seen doing so. We were unable to beat him to Bayard itself, but, due to the time of day, the lighting was not very good any way.

OHIC 4097
Title:  OHIC 4097
Description:  Since the 101 was making a northbound run from Bergholz, this left yard work to be done, so the 4097 was fired up. Here she is working the south end of the yard. This is yet another former Monongahela Railway SUper 7 to find a home in Ohio.

W&LE - OHIC connection
Title:  W&LE - OHIC connection
Description:  Seen standing by the W&LE, we see the connection tightly curving around the hill. You can barely see the north end Wye switch before the track curves around the hill.

W&LE - OHIC connection - south end wye switch
Title:  W&LE - OHIC connection - south end wye switch
Description:  Just what the title says. It is interesting to note that the "normal" physical condition of this switch was to go around the wye, which is going off to the right, and you would be diverging to go down the connector. Makes for an odd S curve.

W&LE - OHIC connection - north end wye switch
Title:  W&LE - OHIC connection - north end wye switch
Description:  Now, this switch is a little more normal. As you can tell, the connection track has a severe upgrade to it, as I am standing with the old NYC behind me and old P&WV in front of me.

W&LE - OHIC connection
Title:  W&LE - OHIC connection
Description:  This shot gives you another look at the grade. The connector ends at the switch in the foreground when it joins up with the Alliance Branch. You'll see it better in a moment, but there was quite a long passing (or interchange?) siding here, which is the second switch.

OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Title:  OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Description:  In Ohi-Rail parlance, the track going from the bottom left corner into the background is the Piney Fork Industrial Track. I am still standing on the connector.

OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Title:  OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Description:  The switch in the last photo lead into three more tracks, probably for interchange with the P&WV, as it did not appear that there was any sort of coal-loading appartus in the area of these tracks.

OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Title:  OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Description:  Now in Hopedale, the passing siding (the switch on the left) ends and one of the tree tracks in the last photo ties back in to the main. If you wonder why the ROW is so well-groomed for something that has not seen a train in 15 years, see the next photo...

OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Title:  OHIC Piney Fork Industrial Track
Description:  The track car by the W&LE MOW car and the device with the blue tarp over it (two lawnmowers on RR wheels!) is how the railroad maintains it's nice appearance in this area. One of these days I'll post some of my photos of my exploration in 2003 of other parts of this line.

OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Title:  OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Description:  For whatever stupid reason (all of Conrail's reasons were STUPID when it came to Minerva Yard) Conrail chose to tear out 2 through the yard, leaving a kink like this on both ends. I'm looking south towards Bergholz and Hopedale... That's 4 to my left, the Main to my right and 3 all the way over. 4 deadends at that little pile of ballast and that is 12 heading from the left and connecting to the main. You'll see other pics of this later...

OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Title:  OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Description:  I basically did a 360 from the last shot to get this view looking north. That the OHI-Rail Minerva Yard switcher doing some work. The track all the way on the right with the white tank cars is 10, then 4 (6 and 8 are gone), then the main (2 gone), then 3, 5, 7 and the train is on 9. In the background you can barely see a crossover that runs from the main over to 4 track. This is partially how OHIC gets around their cars to shove to the NS Interchange at Bayard.

OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Title:  OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Description:  Again, L to R - EHL, the two unknowns, 9 and 7. There is no enginehouse on Ohi-Rail, but the old Roundhopuse still exists and is used by a non-railroad industry.

Title:  OHIC Minerva Yard - South End
Description:  Again, standing in the space former occupied by tracks 6 and 8. Thats 12 going around the covered hopped (which is derailed) on 10, then the space, then track 4. You can see one of the old frogs by the tank car on the tail of 4 (which has friction bearing trucks on it!!!)

Title:  OHIC Minerva Yard - North End
Description:  One of the other old engine house tracks. Speaking of that, the old NYC Minerva Roundhouse, can be seen in this photo. See the van inside the fence? Go all the way to the right, thats the end of the roundhouse! The track immediately to my left is the EHL tail.

OHIC Wolf Run Branch
Title:  OHIC Wolf Run Branch
Description:  Here is the end of the Wolf Run Branch, which last saw service in the late 80s or early 90s. Coal was actually loaded until that time, too. There is still coal in the area, just trucked or being held in "reserve" :( I'll dig up the old mine name here and let you all know what it is.
