UP 2531 passing the KCS Cafe
Title:  UP 2531 passing the KCS Cafe
Description:  UP 2531, with its door open on a hot and very muggy day, passes by the oddly shaped KCS Cafe in Shreveport. Notice how close the locomotive is to the building, long abandoned and recently damaged by a fire, then by a tornado.

UP 5210 Grinds Up The Wilson Alley Grade in
Title:  UP 5210 Grinds Up The Wilson Alley Grade in
Description:  UP 5210 leads a train grinding up the surprisingly steep Wilson Alley grade in Shreveport. On the track to the viewer's left, you can see sand over the ties from locomotives trying to pull trains up this grade. I have seen 4 or 5 UP trains actually stall on the grade, and this freight was clearly working hard to make it up the grade.

Title:  RSSX 103, Railpower's Low Emission Locomotive, on UP
Description:  I got a big surprise on Saturday when this little gem came by - hitched up to two very non-descript LLPX units.

UP 4419 at the KCS/UP Triple Bridge
Title:  UP 4419 at the KCS/UP Triple Bridge
Description:  UP freight led by 4419 has just entered the "Rabbit Line" and is crossing over three KCS tracks that enter the Texas Avenue cut. The bridge the UP train is on apparently was set up for three tracks, but only had two (and now has one). To the right is an old Cotton Belt bridge that used to run to a local spur. This is Shreveport's busiest area for train watching, though it is awkward for train photography. The most distant track in the KCS cut under the train bends around and ends up where the end of this UP train is. You can see, if you look carefully, some KCS signals on the other side of the pasture that is beyond the shadows of the overpass. From the Linwood Ave. bridge, where this photo was taken, you can see the four lines here, plus two more KCS and one more UP line.
