Military railroads have been given many nick-names by the soldiers who operated them such as the B&F, Main Gate & Back, or Wobbly & Western but more officially they are known as Utility Rails. Description:  The Utility Rail performs a turnaround for a group of NCO students learning to load and unload trucks from flatcars. Here a LMTV can be seen getting pulled across the end of Washington Blvd in front of in Transportation Motor Pool, ran by the same contract as the Utility Rail, Northrop Grumman.

Description:  This was the busiest day the Fort Eustis RR has had in years. It was worked by the Army Reserves and civilian contractors in two shifts. By the end of the day over a hundred fifty 89' flats had been loaded with floating causeways.

Outside the rail shop
Title:  Outside the rail shop
Description:  A 1/2 Ton Toyota Pick-Up sits next to an 80-Ton GE Switcher used by the Utility Rail Branch, and a small track speeder used by the track maintenance department. This old work horse (the locomotive, not my truck) is responsible for the switching duties around the garrison. Rebuilt in 1989, the center cab has two Cummins 6 cylinder turbos while the 1991 king cab (as it was called in the 90s) also equipped with 6 cylinders.
