Viewing Album:  NMWA Heads into Waterville, Maine

Album Info:During a visit to Waterville in October of '06, and after the obligatory stop at the 470 shrine and Waterville Yard of the old Maine Central, I happened upon Summit Ave in Fairfield about mile east of the Yard. It was an interesting stop. There was an old MCRR freight house in good repair being used by a local business. Between the freight house & Summit Ave there was a long unused unloading ramp. The siding which serviced these two RR utilities was visible peeping thru some recently trimmed under brush. I had been at the siding from only 5 minutes and was about to leave when around the bend, as announced by radio chatter, was NMWA (Northern Maine to Waterville) a west bound freight. Here is a glimpse of Guilford providing another Prime Move for Maine Industry. Although the black & red of the locomotives are changed from 30 years ago, the speed and freight consist, albeit in newer rolling stock, is much as it was in Maine Central times. The hardwood logs bring up the are fitting for a state where much of the economy is based on Forest Products. /DL
