Album Info:A hour and fifteen minute delay on departure really spoiled good lighting on the Navasota River Bridge. Lots of people, railfans and the general public - everybody wants to see the Big Boy. I started the day with a miscalculation: I figured UP would bring her down the Brazos Yard lead; but no, they dragged her out ass first onto the main at Tatsie, where she cut off from her diesel and commenced south for the run. I set up away from the track on the Mumford School shoulder on the east side of FM50, while practically everyone else was on the west side. As the train curved, the west side would be in the dark, hence my positioning on the east side. So, I set up on the Mumford Curve east side with my video camera on a 8 foot ladder. Wouldn't you know last second, a UP employee pulled up right into field of view, to guard the Union Bend Road crossing which was west of and behind me. All the places to park, and douche nugget is in my viewfinder. I cropped it out on the video, but still. Add this to everyone pacing it passing between my camera and the train.. A nice spot, but not for the pure photographer. all images: © 2024 ~ Phantastic Pherroequinology / Philip M. Goldstein
