Description:  K-36 486 is working its way along the switchback at Garfield on the Monarch Branch. This scene was taken circa 1955 and the branch would not be narrow for much longer. It was converted to Standard Gauge in 1956. The branch is gone, but 486 is still around on the Durango & Silverton.

Title:  Rio Grande K-27 2-8-2 464
Description:  Seen at Durango during 1956, K-27 464 lays over between runs. 464 was built by Baldwin in 1903. It operated until 1962 when it was retired. It was stored in Durango at that time until it was sold to Knotts Berry Farm in 1973. Knotts would sell it in 1981 to the Genesee County Parks Commission in Flint, MI. 464 was moved to the Huckleberry Railroad and restored to operation in 1992. As of 2023, it is currently under overhaul.

On point is F7A 5721, followed by F7B 5722, GP9 5923, F7B 5723 and F7A 5724. 5721 was built in June 1952 and would be sold to Penn Central in February 1970. As PC 721, it would be renumbered to 1878. It passed to Conrail in 1976 before being retired in November 1978.

Description:  Taking a spin on the turntable at Alamosa is K-36 486. 486 was built by Baldwin in 1925. It was retired in 1962 and donated to Canon City, CO in 1967. 486 was placed on display at Royal Gorge Park. During the 1990s, it was traded with K-37 499 and sent to the Durango & Silverton. 486 then ran for several years on the D&S and is currently out of service.

Description:  Outside the enginehouse at Chama is K-37 491. 491 was built by the Rio Grande in 1928 from Standard Gauge 2-8-0 1126. It was retired in 1970 and stored in Alamosa. In 1972 it was donated to the Colorado State Historical Society. 491 would continue to sit in Alamosa until 1985 when it was moved to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. 491 was restored to operation in 2014.

Description:  Paused at Burnham Yard in Denver is Rio Grande's first diesel, NW2 100. It was built by EMD in January 1941 as 7000. 7000 was renumbered to 100 in September 1941. It ran until January 1968 when it was sold to Precision Engineering who would lease the unit to Great Lakes Steel and Youngstown Sheet & Tube. In 1972, Precision would sell it to the East Camden & Highland, where it became EACH 62.
