Album Info:My original birthday outing on the Villa Grove Sub ended up falling through when I got wind that the Bloomer might be running (and my impatience helped with that). I got that and then some. Enjoy!

TPW 3440
Title:  TPW 3440
Description:  First train outing day being 21! Ive always had a thing for main line railfanning, unlike other fans my age have these days, so I had a day on the UP/CSX Joint Line in mind for my first train day outing as a legal adult. Got up nice and early in order to be trackside before it got light outside, but I had some putbacks on the way there, which made me a little later than I wanted to be, but I got another train out of it too! Found this westbound TPW manifest parked on the west side of Reynolds to begin the day. I had been told that this train would continue west later in the day, so more than likely I would get to see it again at Watseka.

IDTX 4622
Title:  IDTX 4622
Description:  Finally just after sunrise I made it to the Joint Line. Started the day at Woodland Jct where CSX and UP split. And I waited. And I waited. And I waited. After 2 hours of waiting, my impatience got the best of me. With the shortened days I came to the conclusion that it would be better for me to find trains than it would be for me to wait on them, so I decided to go west to the IC to see if I could find some action (and better power). On my way there I heard the southbound Illini trip the defect detector at Clifton, so I decided to set up shop at Onarga for it. About 15 minutes later the Illini raced south with the traditional Charger on the front. And of course, then was when action on the Joint Line began to happen...

IC 1007
Title:  IC 1007
Description:  After Amtrak I worked my way north to Gilman where I noticed that the L555 local to Otto would be sporting a Deathstar on the front. Exactly what I was hoping for. However, at the same time, I also heard peeps coming from the Bloomer frequency. I was a bit torn on what to do, but since I had never shot the Bloomer before I decided to make that my priority. Not even 4 miles out of Gilman and I picked up L555 keying up the dispatch ready to go north. I knew chances were if I chased the Bloomer I would not get back to the IC in time to see L555 come south, so I turned around and went back. Set up at Danforth, and boy was it worth it!

IDTX 4618
Title:  IDTX 4618
Description:  As always when it comes to traffic on the IC, Amtrak gets priority, and the northbound Illini was nearby when L555 came north, so dispatch lined the L555 into the hole north of Ashkum to allow Amtrak and a couple freights go by. First off, though, was Amtrak. I shot it by the tower at Ashkum.

Title:  BLOL 7591
Description:  BLOL 7591 and sister disconnect from their set of cars and pull forward through the siding track around the LTEX 3802 and its cars. There apparently used to be a really cool wooden grain elevator here I discovered later on. Too bad its not still here!

Description:  Once combined with the other engine and set of cars, the Bloomer southbound takes off from Charlotte with no stops until Gibson City. Was really happy that the corporate units were left on the head end!

Title:  BLOL 7591
Description:  Garber would make for the final shot of the Bloomer. NS keyed up CN and asked for permission to get back over to their tracks to head south to Decatur. Being this close to Wabash Searchlights I wasnt going to pass that up. What a chase! Definitely will do this again!

NS 7014
Title:  NS 7014
Description:  I was well behind the NS train by the time I got into Gibson City, but it was still curving off the connection. Still, it was a heck of a drive to get to CP Goembel where my first seachlights were. However, I was able to do it with seconds to spare. I got set up and I got my first shot with Wabash Searchlight signals since they were replaced on the main line through Fort Wayne. What a way to end the day! Despite driving well over 400 miles today, it was so worth it!
