So when this came through to tie up on the Flynn Siding. I figured I go over to the NSS Flynn and grab a few shots. Well, the train wouldn't fit between the Flynn Siding derails and cut for the FM977 crossing, so the dispatcher had them move up to Newby.
So I jump into the Burb, and run ahead to CR418 to get the head end when it stopped to do the 6.6 to pick up the conductor.
I figured, well, he was going to back up to the curve entering Flynn, I'll get him there. I pull into the field, no problem. Grab my shots, engineer grabs the conductor, and they are off northbound. Get a toot-toot from the crew and jump back into the Burb and head for the asphalt.
Literally 5 feet from the pavement - womp - into the mud. 4 wheel drive? Nope - didn't help - sitting and spinning.
I call the wife Deborah M. Pickering; and wake her up from her Sunday afternoon nap, (who just loves to come to bail me out of stupid situations like this). I was less than a mile from home, so she was there with 5 minutes.
I already had recovery chain in the Burb (don't leave home without them) and was ready for her to pull up. With her tires on the pavement, I come right out.
By now, I just gave up, came home and washed the mud off the 'Burb.
