PRR 4912, GG-1, 1952
Description:
PFJ. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken at Frankford Junction near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1952. At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4912, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata during January of 1942 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. It has just departed 30th Street Station with the "Congressional" on its way to Trenton and New York City. At the right (L to R) are PRR engines #4788 and #4781. Both are P-5A (2-C-2) modifides built in Juniata and rated at 3,750 horsepower each; #4788 was built in February of 1935, but #4781 was out-shopped one month earlier.

PFJ. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken at Frankford Junction near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 1955. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4939 and another unit whose number is not recorded. #4939 is an E-2B (B-B) built by General Electric in May of 1951, rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in June of 1965 after just 14 years of revenue service.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8731, a BS-24M transfer locomotive built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in December of 1952 and retired in October of 1967 after just 15 years of service. In this context, it looks like it could be pushing PRR N-5 cabin car #477024!

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3858, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1923 and retired in April of 1958 after 35 years of faithful service. In this context, it's rockin' 'n' rollin' with a five-car Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines' commuter train.

Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4756 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are P-5A (2-C-2) electrics rated at 3,750 horsepower each. #4756 was built by General Electric in September of 1932 and retired in June of 1963 after 31 years of faithful service. PFJ. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Robert L. Eastwood, Jr., that was taken at Frankford Junction near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, perhaps in 1967. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4841 and #4876. Both are GG-1's (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata and rated at 4,620 horsepower each. #4841 was built in April of 1935, while #4876 was built in January of 1939. Note the cinder block structure at the left; it serves as the commter shelter here at the Junction. The exact date is not recorded.
