Description:  Sadly less than a month away from the date of this photo by H.L. Goldsmith, this locomotive will be scrapped. Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1920, it served for 38 years. Specs - serial #61867, class J-4e, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x28" cylinders, engine weight of 260,000 lb, tractive effort of 38,097 lb.

Description:  Sitting in a dead line with other steam locomotives is this 1919 Montreal Locomotive Works built 4-6-2 Pacific. Originally built for the Canadian Government Rwys (CGR) as their #490, it was transferred to the newly created Canadian National RR after the collapse of several Canadian railroads. Specs -serial #59474, class J-7a, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, engine weight of 268,000 lb, tractive effort of 39,736 lb. The loco was scrapped in October of 1959. H.L. Description:  H.L. Goldsmith caught this Montreal Locomotive Works 4-6-2 Pacific built in July of 1920 as it sits in a deadline in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, yard. The locomotive will survive a few more years before being sent to the scrapper's torch in September of 1961.

Description:  Long before a GP38 unit carried the number 5548, this 1914 4-6-2 Pacific built by the Montreal Locomotive Works had the honor. Originally built for the Canadian Government Rwy as their #449, the loco was absorbed by the newly created Canadian National when the country's railroads were joined together and renumbered 5548. Description:  Sitting in front of the CN Stratford Yard roundhouse is the 1910 4-6-2 Pacific built by the Grand Trunk Rwy shops as their #222 (serial #1505). Description:  Sitting next to the streamlined 4-8-4 CN 6402, this 4-6-2 Pacific #5609 looks old in comparison. Built by the Grand Trunk Rwy shops in December of 1920 as GTR #288, the loco was transferred to Canadian National in 1938 and renumbered 5609.
