Northbound Ferry Trip |
Description: |
On Monday 19 November 1984 Southern Railway 4501 was heading out of New Orleans after a pair of weekend trips to Hattiesburg and back on the DEEP SOUTH STEAM EXCURSIONS. The ferry trip was photographed on the New Orleans Terminal Co. at milepost 4. It consisted of water car W.T. 53, GP38 2723, a coal gondola, combine 726, lightweight coaches 841, 842 and 843, commissary car 4061, and heavyweight coaches 1067, 3659, 1068, 1081, 1086, 1087 and 1056 LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN. The GP38 was added to the northbound train on Saturday because of bad coal on the 4501 and remained on the train. The next year would be 4501’s last visit to the Crescent City and the final DEEP SOUTH STEAM EXCURSIONS. |
