"The average freight diesel unit in the system pool did 353 miles a day in March, 1955; 361 miles a day in March, 1956; and 377 miles a day in March, 1957." (Page 3)

It was published originally in the July-August 1957 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 1. Top Photo, Implied Caption: "Earnings: $300 per hour (if it's moving)." Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9696 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9696 was constructed as an EH-15 in April of 1949, later rebuilt as an EF-15A, and retired in December of 1963 after just 14 years of revenue service.

Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9876, an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in September of 1952, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in October of 1967 after just 15 years of revenue service.
