Album Info:With the E Houston Drive grade crossing alarm bells ringing in Union City, GA, CSX ES40DC 5408 and 5289 were both hard on the throttle as they rounded the curve on June 9, 2016. What happened next might best be described by Forrest Gump, "stupid is, as stupid does." The driver of a silver Mercedes raised his arm toward the train and dashed across the grade crossing. When I later saw my camera's timing of the encounter, the driver missed being hit by 5408 by less than 3 seconds. You wonder whether anyone that sees an ES40DC up close and personal through their driver side window gets a clue that playing chicken next time with a locomotive is a bad idea? Thankfully, the crew of 5408 were able to safely continue WB with their load of Tropicana reefers and containers.
