On its way to Mile 7
Title:  On its way to Mile 7
Description:  One of my track projects sometimes involves cleaning and painting the old PRR era mile and whistle posts. In the track gang we pound on old Pennsy rail, switch parts, and related materials all the time, but the cast iron signage is unique. These things are brittle and break easily if something runs into them. This sign post was buried in the weeds and was discovered only after a survey of the line put our eyes in exactly the right place to find the marker. Here it is freshly painted on a tie cart to be delivered to mile 7 for install. One half or a third of the origional casting is missing. This portion comes to something like 150 lbs. I suspect the base of the post is somewhere within a few feet of the markers mew position. /DL
