Album Info:On a six week family holiday tour from Darwin to Perth, Cairns and Brisbane I came along some rail tracks ... a new world for me. Australia has a lot of classes, usually built a small batch of around 20 to 80 units. Although the operating companies merged all over Australia and were split up several times. Therefore different colour schemes are visible. Aurizon is Australia’s leading freight operator with an extensive fleet of locomotives and wagons taken over from QR National and ARG Australian Railroad Group. In June 2009 the Queensland Government announced the privatisation of Queensland Rail's freight business. This resulted in Queensland Rail's freight assets being transferred to QR National from July 1st 2010 through an IPO. Australia’s largest rail freight company, the 147-year-old QR National, entered a new era from December 1st 2012 with the adoption of the new name of Aurizon. Aurizon is a combination of Australia and Horizon. Aurizon is Australia's largest rail freight company with services operating across five states. In 2011/12, Aurizon transported more than 250 million tonnes of freight, including coal, iron ore, other minerals, agricultural products and general freight. The company also operates and manages the 2,670 kilometre Central Queensland Coal Network that links mines to coal ports at Bowen, Mackay and Gladstone.
