Description: |
Seaboard System paint scheme debute in September 1982 and lasted to April 1986, between 09/82 to 12/82, when a SBD engine was painted, they were sub lettered, because SBD did not officially became a railtoad until January 01, 1983. SBD painted engines in 1982 where sub lettered as follws GP16s starting at 4802 where sub lettered SCL, AWP and WA. One SD35 was sub lettered L&N (in itallics). A speculation the 6051 GP38-2 was sub letterd GA while in SBD paint yet I cannot find a photograph of it. |

Description: |
At the begining if the paint scheme in 09/86 the B&O, C&O, SBD and WM sub letters where in use, until 10/87, when C&O [last remain railroad of the Chessie System] merged to complete CSX [SBD previously became CSX 04/86]. Anyways on 10/87, the 8048 was painted with "CSX" as the sub lettering, instead in this case SBD. The 8048 is the only known engine to have "CSX" purposely painted as part of the paint scheme, all subsequent engines that was paint in thos scheme from 10/87 no longer included any sub lettering, unless a "CSXT" was added later. |
