DWEL (Detroit Wayne-Elkhart)
Title:  DWEL (Detroit Wayne-Elkhart)
Description:  This photograph was taken in August 1993 along the Michigan Line where is flirts with the Huron River just west of Ann Arbor. Conrail was still sending DWEL (Detroit Wayne-Elkhart) out from Wayne before sunset at this time. It wasnt long before Autumn caught up with us and the available light vanished early on ... and then Conrail reverted to sending him west from CP-YPSI after Amtrak 352 passed him around 2100, making him a night time train once again. Gone were my evenings of knoshing on a Hot Trout sandwich from DeLongs BBQ down by the Huron River.

Conrail train ELDW (Elkhart-Detroit Wayne)
Title:  Conrail train ELDW (Elkhart-Detroit Wayne)
Description:  ELDW (Elkhart-Detroit Wayne) is making a very rare daytime appearance on the Michigan Line in February 1994. He has just passed Honnigers Feed Mill eastbound and will be at the Dexter Detector in just a of couple minutes. We are standing along Dexter-Chelsea Road not far from Lima Center Road., looking northwest. I happened to hear him on the scanner at Jackson while railfanning NS at Milan. I vectored him to this location, and caught him with no time at all to spare. A mere five seconds late and Id have missed this shot.

Amtrak 274
Title:  Amtrak 274
Description:  We are just west of the platform of the Ann Arbor Amtrak Station, looking west as 350 (Chicago-Detroit) glides in for a station stop. The Ann Arbor RR bridge over the Michigan Line is just out of the picture on the right. If this is a six car train, the rear car is still under the bridge.

ML441 (Detroit North Yard-IHB Gibson Yard)
Title:  ML441 (Detroit North Yard-IHB Gibson Yard)
Description:  This is an unusual daytime appearence for ML441 (Detroit North Yard-IHB Gibson Yard), who was struggling to keep his train moving at track speed on the main through Chelsea, Michigan. We counted 60 loaded autoracks. The red flag on the rear of the BN covered hopper marks the tail end of WDWA-01, who has released his Form D so that Amtrak 350 and this ML441 can get around him. We are standing just west of Chelsea Milling, aka Jiffy Mix, looking east toward downtown Chelsea. Through the grain transloading area on the right can be seen the former Michigan Central passenger depot. 2:00pm 4/30/99

Conrail 3355
Title:  Conrail 3355
Description:  WDWA-01 (Wayne Road Local) is returning eastward to Wayne Yard after having done his work at Chelsea Milling (aka Jiffy Mix) in Chelsea. We are at the Conrail location known as West Ann Arbor, where the Art Train used to be parked. On the team track is Conrail SRS-134, Sperry Rail Service Car #134, "W. J. Gallagher". The team track provides interchange with the Ann Arbor Railroad, but it has been paved over at Main Street. On the right is the Huron River

Amtrak 518
Title:  Amtrak 518
Description:  About a mile west of the West Ann Arbor switch the Michigan Line crosses the Huron River at Barton Dam, one of the most popular hiking and get-away-from-it-all parks in the Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation department. City parks and trails follow the Michigan Line through town except for two short easements which are private property. Here we see Amtrak 350 (Chicago-Pontiac) being pulled by GE B32-8WH Amtrak 518. The B32-8WHs were assigned to Michigan service, replacing the F40PHs until they themselves were replaced by Genesis locomotives.
