Title:  Southern Pacific C-50-9 4720
Description:  The 4720 has spent nearly a decade on various spur tracks that have fallen out of use in and around Springfield, this time being the Former Lehigh spur. I'm glad they brought it out in the open, it has spent a couple of years hidden in the Springfield Yard around Rosboro making it nearly impossible to photograph.

Description:  On the last day of Summer 2013, the Southbound Coast Starlight approaches the curve near MP 610 at Dougren siding. Dougren was the first siding built passed Fall Creek Jct. on the 1952 Lookout Resovuir re-alignment portion of the Natron Cutoff. Dougren was named for Douglas Green who helped pay for the new portion of SP's railroad.

Description:  Note to editor: UP 8086 Locomotive category needs to be fixed. While expecting two Southbounds which did not pass until after dark, this unexpected Northbound was a very pleasent surprise. The leader UP 8086 is a brand new heavy c45ah built in 2013 specifically for the I-5 corridor, they are 8 tons heavier then the standard es44ac which is intended to help fix the problem of trains stalling on the hill out of Oakridge.

Title:  Fresh New Union Pacific Power
Description:  leading this Northbound intermodal. The 8086 is a brand new 2013 heavy gevo which is 8 tons heavier then the standard es44ac which is intended to keep trains from stalling on the hill out of Oakridge. The other two are both 2012 series, es44ac and sd70ace respectively, making this one great looking set of power to creep through the shaddows of the setting sun on the last day of Summer 2013. Note to editor: UP 8086 locomotive model designation needs fixing.

Title:  Where's 1801?
Description:  For most of my life the geep in charge of the log car switching in Eugene was former SP GP-9 #1801 painted in SP's Black Widdow scheme, but today the 2303 has the job. This is along Oregon Electric district which was an inter-urban street car line until it closed down during the great depresion. Line was originally built by the SP&S.

Description:  The new 2013 UP gevos are 8 tons heavier then the standard es44ac and were ordered specifically to be assigned to the I-5 corridor to help fix the problem of stalling underpowered trains on the hill South of Oakridge. At only a few moths old, these two are a testament to how hard it was for SP to keep their power clean when they ran the show.

Description:  This was definitely the catch of the day on my relatively short Memorial Day visit to Eugene Yard, this was quite a rainbow for 2014-era Union Pacific as these days the vast majority of locomotives on trains here are a made up of a pure set of Armour Yellow, Harbor Mist, Red, White and Blue ES44ACs and SD70 variants, but on this day the lash up seen here definitely broke the mold (and there was a second patched SP AC44 in the yard too!). This is located at the South end of Eugene Yard, lash ups of power are often kept here while they await their next asignment. These units were built, from left to right: 2008, 1996, 2007, 1995, 2011.
