Album Info:The photographs in this album were captured in Northeast Wisconsin in the spring of 2014, so they are mostly CN operating on former C&NW, GB&W, MILW, and SOO rails. Once in a while I succeed in catching ELS and WSOR on their former MILW rails too.

Description:  CN local shoves an unusually long string of cars into the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction, WI on 28 May '14. They dropped off 64 cars (the average is about 30 cars, or so) before eventually continuing on with 8 cars for Little Chute and Kaukauna. The depot is partially visible in the background. WC 9623, RMC Typhoon Snow Blower, is on the left.

Description:  CN local lumbers past Lopas Pond at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve via the former joint MILW/ SOO rails at Menasha, WI on 30 May '14. The locomotive is crossing a small bridge which allows Lopas Channel to drain into Lake Winnebago. Train was heading back to Neenah, likely after servicing the Hilbert area and points beyond.

For nearly a century this train would have been hidden behind the historic Pierce Manufacturing plant that occupied this city block from 1917 until it was razed ca. 2010-12.

Train was heading from Stevens Point to Green Bay and had two locomotives, CN 2176 pulling and GTW 5856 pushing. Description:  CN local slows to stop at the siding on former C&NW rails in Little Chute, WI on 9 Jun. '14. Crew had just finished servicing Nestlé Pizza Division, originally Jack's Pizza, and stopped here to rearrange a few cars in order to service the Little Chute industrial park one mile to the east. Train would then service Thilmany Pulp and Paper mill in Kaukauna before heading back to Neenah. Normally they service the Little Chute industrial park after Kaukauna, due to the orientation of the turnout, but today they did it differently. The industry on the left is Crystal Print, Inc., which receives periodic rail service.

These cars are part of the TRANSCAER® (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) program, founded by UP and Dow Chemical Co. in '86, but greatly expanded since then.

Description:  LRC 606 spotted at Shawano Paper Mill at Shawano, WI on 13 Jun. ’14. The mill was originally Wolf River Paper & Fiber Co., but is currently a div. of Little Rapids Corp. This facility is serviced by CN via a combination of SOO and C&NW rails. The track in the foreground is a 4-mile remnant of the C&NW mainline that once ran 83 miles from Green Bay to Wausau, WI. That line, minus this segment and a 2-mile stretch in Wausau that still have rails, is now the Mountain-Bay State Trail.
