Stone Culvert
Title:  Stone Culvert
Description:  When the B&O rebuilt portions of the eastern slope of the Old Main Line around 1905 they continued to install stone culverts as evidenced by this example just a few hundred feet east of the Dazis Tunnels east portal. Just visible in this scene are rubber coated steel telegraph wires. One is runs diagonally across this scene apparently brought down by the fallen tree on the left and the other hanging vertically to the9right. Just a few hundred feet down stream from this culvert are two more RR related stone culverts which once carried earlier versions of the OML. One is collapsed and the other, larger one carries a state park hiking & bike path. /DL

Title:  Q372 eastbound on the Old Main Line
Description:  I stumbled across this train climbing the grade at the West Plaine signal while I was driving east on I70 approaching Mt.Airy. I arrived at this vantage point just a 1000 feet or so east of Henryton Tunnel about 10 minutes before the train sound a whistle for the tunnel. The tunnels east portal is just round the bend to the left in the distance. /DL

Description:  Looking west, these Whistle posts are for Woodstock Road (MD125) round a bend or two up the track. These track scenes were taken during a 2 hour period between a eastbound mainfest train and a westbound empty coal train from a hiking trail in Marylands Patapsco Valley State Park. I rather like track and signals. Here the newest track management techniques with well gromed ballast, welded rail and the last vestages of a wired signal system show both the old and new of railroading. Most of this old wire along parts of the old B&O in this area have been taken down. The track oiler near MP21.5 was solar powered negating the need for the High Voltage. The near track is the main line and the further track is 9200 foot Davis Siding. /DL
