Album Info:I lived in Queens Village for a little under four years. It was a great place to see the action. The station was on an embankment, and had a four track signal bridge at the east end, with PRR position lights, as was LIRR practice. This made for a great photo prop. The station waiting area was also intact, and could be worked into a shot. And there was lots of action, all day long.

Old station
Title:  Old station
Description:  The waiting area of the Queens Village station is visible to the right of this eastbound Ronkonkoma train, led by former Bicentennial unit 252. The station has not had an agent in years, though the structure itself remains to provide some shelter from the elements.

Busy time
Title:  Busy time
Description:  Queens Village was at the end of the four track Main Line. East of here, the two tracks to Hempstead separated at Queens, with the two Main Line tracks going on to Hicksville. As such, there was a lot of action. Here we see a Hempstead train pulling away, having just discharged its riders as an Oyster Bay train blows past on track 3. The Hempstead train will stay where it is, taking that track to Garden City, where it will turn south to the end of the line. The Oyster Bay train will cross over one track to the left and continue out Main Line track 2 to Mineola.

Great light
Title:  Great light
Description:  One of the things about the winter was the low light, which offset the short days. An afternoon westbound from Ronkonkoma rolls toward Jamaica as the low sun lights up the FA leading the train.

Big picture
Title:  Big picture
Description:  This westbound led by an FA shows the whole Queens Village station area, as well as the west end of Queens interlocking-Queens tower is behind the third car in the train. The station is largely intact, the ticket office, though is down below off Springfield Blvd. Still, its a good looking structure in 1988. The signals are the west limit of Queens, where trains will go onto either the Main Line, which is the two north tracks;or the Hempstead Branch, the two south tracks. Theyll run alongside each other as far as Floral Park. The tower also controls the wye connection to the Belmont Spur, leading to Belmont Racetrack, which connects from track 4 at far right.

Kabin Kars
Title:  Kabin Kars
Description:  The LIRR ran a Kabin Kar Trek on this Sunday, covering some of the freight only areas on the west end, including Bushwick Terminal and the Bay Ridge Branch. After swapping power at Jamaica, it ran out the Mitchell Field Secondary behind a set of Alcos. Here is is passing the Queens Village team yard with FA 609 leading a pair of C 420s repainted in the MTA scheme from the 1960s. The Centuries still have their 251 engines, but the FA has had its 244 removed and a Caterpillar engine/generator set installed. It's just along for the ride, but an Alco cab leading a pair of Centuries is still a good looking consist.
